David Attrill
Head of Legal, Regulatory and Compliance
What I do at JT
I lead the Legal, Regulatory and Compliance team. The team has three broad responsibilities - to help:
- JT do business;
- JT be (and remain) in compliance with laws and regulations that govern its business; and
- the orderly running of JT’s business.
Working closely within the team and the wider business, we:
- prepare and negotiate legal agreements and advise on laws and regulations;
- participate in boards, committees and other groups across the business; and
- engage with third parties such as lawyers, regulators, suppliers and customers.
Why JT
In my nearly five years at JT, I have never woken up in the morning thinking that I don’t want to go to work today.
At all levels of the company, people are approachable, collaborative and good to work with.
Who am I?
I qualified as a barrister but have spent most of my working life in law firms or legal departments. After qualifying, I worked in London for about five years, before moving to Hungary where I worked for PwC and then Clifford Chance. I came to Jersey in 2006, working for Bedell Cristin and then what is now Ocorian.
Although I only joined JT in 2020, there was a period of about seven years at Bedell Cristin when I did JT work almost every day.
Advice for prospective candidates
Be yourself. We’re not just looking for skills on paper. We want to understand who you are, what drives you, and how you approach challenges.
Preparation is also key, of course! Know the company, the team, and the role.
